Secondary Screen Support provides the ability to have an interview setting where the respondent can be handed a separate Android device (phone or tablet) so that during the interview so the interviewer can directly present images or videos directly on the participant's device. This provides a way for the interviewer to listen to feedback provided by the respondent to record their experience without having to hand over their primary interviewing device.
Before displaying a second screen, you will need to set up Secondary Screen Support. See 1: Requirements .
1: Requirements
Both Primary and Secondary device need to be Android devices (as the app is using an Android-specific method to connect)
Both Primary and Secondary device need to have the CAPI app installed and the same survey assigned. (You can log into both devices with the same CAPI Interviewer to easily have the same survey assigned to both devices.)
Wi-Fi must be On and Location enabled on both devices. (No Wi-Fi network is needed for either device as Secondary Screen Support uses Wi-Fi Direct peer-to-peer.)
Only images or videos can be shown. Files must be from the File Library (so they are available locally/offline).
2: Primary Device Setup
On the primary interviewing device, open To access the Settings page:. Under Secondary Content Display, toggle Enable Sharing to ON. The name that will be broadcasted will be shown (for example, Android_fz7b)
.
3: Secondary Device Setup
On the secondary device (the one the respondent will view), open To access the Settings page:. Under Secondary Content Display, select Connect to Device.
Select the appropriate device (the name broadcase when you selected Enable Sharing on the Primary Device).
Once connected, a waiting screen is shown. This is simply a web view waiting for messages from the Primary device.
4: How to show an image/video
When the JS function is called within the survey on the Primary device (for example, tapping a button created in the Survey Design phase), the image or video is immediately shown on the secondary device screen. There is no delay because both devices have access to the same File Library resources as part of the same survey.
