Next and Previous Buttons
Two sets of buttons are provided to allow you to navigate through the survey questions. Assuming the survey is set up to allow “back” navigation (see the note below):
(Tablet Only) The toolbar towards the top of the screen will hold Next and Previous
buttons towards the right and left ends of the bar respectively. They are built into the App so will always be in these locations.
(All Devices) The survey page itself will also include navigation buttons. These however are designed and positioned by the survey designer, so will not always be in the same place and will not always look the same.
For example:
The buttons function in exactly the same way - tap the appropriate button to move to the next or previous page in the survey.
Note: If the survey has been designed such that you are not allowed to move back to previously answered questions, then the Back buttons will not be displayed.
Moving Back to an Earlier Question
If you need to go back to an earlier question in the interview (maybe the respondent wishes to change a previous answer), proceed as follows:
- Tap the Overflow icon.
- In the drop-down, tap "Back to Question" to open the Find Question page.
- Use the search box to find the question you want to return to, or select it from the list.
- Tap on a question to go to it.
Fast-forwarding
The Fast-forward functionality moves you to the next interactive question (not an info page) that requires an answer.
To use this:
- Tap the Overflow icon.
- In the drop-down, tap "Fast forward".
Full Keyboard Support
This functionality provides a way for an interviewer to work more efficiently during an interview session by using the device keyboard to navigate the survey for the majority of the interview rather than clicking a mouse or device touchscreen.
Note: Full keyboard support is only available in CAPI App for Windows and requires survey layout Responsive v1 or higher.
Keyboard shortcuts is controlled per device within the app settings menu:
